Absolute Powers Corrupts Absolutely

The frightening thing about this, when the Republicans gained control of the White House and Congress, they self-destructed in a similar way.

Health care aside, I cannot imagine the mindset of an individual who would rather throw his responsibility to those he represents out the door than pushing aside personal bias (excuse me, political bias in this case). We elect people to represent us. Yes, party platforms help to guide thought - but party platforms do not make law - PEOPLE DO!
Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it; and this I know, my lords, that where laws end, tyranny begins. - William Pitt the Elder (1770)

What also frightens me is how quickly each party is trying to dump any semblance of Christianity just to gain a few extra votes. But to each his own. I will remain an independent and keep my money to myself (at least whatever money is left after the Democrats steal it from me through added taxes).

Kudos go to those who ratcheted up the debate about the White House "flagging" program. The White House, however, is still looking for those who disagree with them - they have just changed the name of it. They keep sinking deeper and deeper into the mire they are creating. The White House is still refusing to add the confirmation email to their email list. So keep up the pressure to keep power from overwhelming the White House (as they seem to be vulnerable to too much).

I also want to pick on those who keep carrying their weapons to the protests. Look, I am all for gun ownership. I am a former military policeman who was part of a two time state championship M60 machine gun team. I love going to the gun range and practicing.

Yet, I am very disturbed by the pictures of people "bearing arms" as a form of protest. If this was a gun control debate, maybe it would be appropriate depending on the circumstances. You are not proving anything by taking your guns. You are only becoming political fodder for those who are on the opposite side of the debate. This isn't a shot gun wedding. Leave your guns at home! Your show of force or power is just as bad as the arrogance of those supporting the health care reform in Congress.

And another selfish power move is being displayed by the rat fink Mark Sanford, the governor of South Carolina. He can't be faithful to his wife, so he goes to another country to engage in an affair. His wife leaves him, and all he can say is sorry. How about stepping down! But no, power has corrupted his thinking. If he can't remain faithful to his wife, how faithful do you think he is being to his state?

Okay, off the soapbox.

There is one sure way of getting our public officials to accept their responsibility of representation and to keep power from going to their heads - vote them out. They'll listen then.
