Tax Day Is Here Again - yelp!

I turned in my taxes several weeks ago. Yesterday, I received my first return. I am still waiting on the state.

{sarcasm warning} For a million other people, however, there is a scramble to get their taxes done, as if April 15th just appeared on their calendar yesterday. I hate it when annual days sneak up on me, don't you? I mean whoever expected April 15th to appear on April 15th. Like Christmas. Who would ever think that it appears on December 25th, and I have a year to get ready for it and save for it? And July 4th on July 4th? {sarcasm end}

Well, if you don't have you taxes done, you still have time. Limited time, but time.

The big news for the day are the over 500 tax rallies being held throughout the United States. If you have a chance, then drop by one near you. I hear of numerous ones in Atlanta, GA, Loganville, GA, Columbia, S.C., New York, New Jersey, Texas, Sacramento, CA, and countless others. I name only the ones I have heard about but you can go here to see if there might be a rally near you: Tax Day Tea Party

Consider the FairTax as you file or watch others panic to file today. If the FairTax passed you would not have to keep this day on the calendar. In fact, April 15th would become just another day to enjoy life instead of creating undue stress and depression.

Besides,
  • With the FairTax you decide when and how you will pay your taxes.
  • With the FairTax everyone will get a very fair tax prebate so the poor would no longer pay taxes and the wealthy would not feel left out.
  • With the FairTax, pork barrel spending would have to end because Congress would actually have to pay attention to the budget or face the voters.
  • With the FairTax, Congress will actually have to cut spending and "try" to become more fiscally responsible (or is that an oxymoron).
  • With the FairTax, the IRS will be abolished (or you could turn them into hounds to go after black market cheats).
  • With the FairTax, Congress will be held to a set tax maximum (23%). They will not be able to raise taxes at will.
Go to a rally today and let your voice be heard. Sign the FairTax petition.

Here is a song by a great American - Lloyd Marcus

The Clock Ticks Doom and Gloom, A Short Story

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.Proverbs 14:34 (NIV)

Doom and gloom, doom and gloom, ticked the clock tower.

The friends noticed the pilot light was out again. The last match having been used days ago. The cold seeped into their home and chilled their bones. The ash in the fire place were piling too high. Someone should clean it, yet no one agreed on how to to do it. The ash was so high that new logs could not be placed in the fire pit for burning. The pilot light on the gas stove had been their last source of good heat.

Some wanted to put the ash in a bucket and find a use for the spent coals - maybe they could sell them for more matches to light the pilot light.

Some wanted to let the coals pile up because just maybe the sight of the pile would remind them of the warmth they once had and how bad that warmth was because others had never had fire to heat their homes.

Others still wanted to clean up the dead coals and toss them out. They wanted to clean the fireplace and set a new standard that allowed room for new logs to burn. The other scoffed at it. They had grown so accustomed to the ash and soot that to change it would mean someone might take advantage and actually get warm.

The ones who wanted to put the ash in an old bucket did just that. They collected the ash and saved it for a new day. Unfortunately, the new day did not dawn, and they were left with the useless ash and with new ash piling up.

The ones who wanted to keep the ash in place were pleasantly surprised by the new build up of ash and soot. They declared that an end to the heat would come this very day if others did not hand over their matches to help light the pilot light. Unfortunately, the amount of matches had so drastically been reduced that those who tired to pay the match debt found themselves without room near the fire and increasingly became colder.

The ones who wanted to clean up the mess and create a new fresh way for all to enjoy the fire were told to sit in the back of the room. Their ideas were just too radical and would mean too much change. Besides, someone would actually have to go to work and clean the fireplace, and those in charge would have power taken from the control they maintained on the fireplace. No way.

So those who wanted to clean the fireplace and bring fresh fire just sat and watched the folly.

Of course if you want to see change in life, sometimes you have to take drastic steps to change. Sometimes you have to watch others continue to ruin things before they admit they need help.

So, don't give up on the FairTax - the Democrats are making an incredible mess. Of course, they called it change - but what's different? The same Clinton staff have return to the White House. The same Democrats are spending like crazy and calling 9000 earmarks "necessary spending". Oh yeah, there are some guilty Republicans also!

Too bad liberals hate the free markets so much. With the FairTax, we may actually start a fire that warms us all, but then who could they manipulate if government could not pull the strings on unjust taxation.

As for the verse from Proverbs, don't forget to check out the 50 Day Challenge. This is a grassroots effort to get our nation back in tune with God's leading. Leave a comment....

A Viable Alternative For Economic Stimulus

Why do anything for yourself? Why succeed? Why push yourself to make necessary changes in your life and better yourself? Your too old, who cares? Why?

The government will come to your rescue! At least that is the message being sent to everyone through this unbearable package.

Now, Senators have come together with a passable plan that could be implemented immediately called the Republican Rival Stimulus Plan.

What I like about it is and what I would like to see added:
  1. That we get to keep what we earned (the government doesn't get control and then send it back to us at their leisure!).
  2. They are slashing corporate taxes!
  3. I would say that states should lose federal money if they do not use the money as designated!
  4. I also like how the money spending ends immediately within three years! This means states will have to act immediately to put the money into the economy.
  5. Oh yes, definitely balance the budget - that is a must!
  6. I still would like to see them use the FairTax to force the federal government to balance the budget.
  7. Also, use the Picken's Plan to get us off foreign oil supplies and into renewable energy.
  8. Finally, I think we need to add tax incentives for individuals who are paying a bazillion dollars for family health care coverage.
Here is the alternative as reported by Reuters:

A group of Senate Republicans unveiled a $445 billion alternative economic stimulus plan on Tuesday, about half the cost of the $885 billion Democratic plan the U.S. Senate is considering.

Following are details of the proposal by John McCain of Arizona, John Thune of South Dakota, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and Mel Martinez of Florida.

Tax Provisions:

* For one year, cut in half to 3.1 percent the payroll tax for all U.S. employees. Cost: $165 billion.

* Lower the 10 percent income tax bracket to 5 percent and the 15 percent bracket to 10 percent for one year. Cost: $60 billion.

* Slash the corporate tax rate to 25 percent from 35 percent for a year. For small businesses filing as individuals, their tax bracket would also go down to 25 percent from 35 percent. Cost: $50 billion.

* Offer in 2009 to homebuyers a tax credit of $15,000 or 10 percent of the purchase price, whichever is less. Cost: $20.4 billion.

Spending Provisions:

* Extend unemployment insurance benefits and food stamps through 2009 and eliminate taxes on unemployment benefits for the same time period. Cost: $48.15 billion.

* Use federal money to discourage mortgage servicers and lenders from executing home foreclosures. Cost: $11 billion.

* Grants to states to build and repair roads and bridges. $65 billion.

* Improve, repair and modernize Defense Department facilities. Order and/or repair equipment, vehicles, material and ammunition for combat troops. $17 billion.

* Grants to states to make investments in public transportation systems. $3 billion.

* Grants for airports to build new runways, install runway safety equipment and other infrastructure projects. Cost: $1.1 billion.

Other provisions:

* All spending programs would end three years after the legislation became law.

* To move toward reducing the budget deficit, after two consecutive quarters of more than 2 percent of inflation-adjusted gross domestic product growth, spending provisions from the stimulus package that has not been spent or obligated would be canceled. Additionally, there would be a 2 percent across-the-board spending reduction to help balance the budget by 2015.

* Establish commissions to review Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

(Reuters)

$445 Billion is still hard to swallow but not as hard as $900 Billion. At least these ideas have validity.

Stimulus Package Drying Up The Economy

As a Christian this burns me up. What you may ask - Government Waste. I received this in an email from the Family Research Center about where Rep. Nancy Pelosi would like to spend your tax dollars:

Exactly what kind of stimulus did Speaker Nancy Pelosi have in mind? That's a question more Americans should be asking now that details are trickling in about the controversial $825 billion "economic recovery" package. $200 million for lawn care in Washington, D.C., $360 million to potentially be used to put on transsexual beauty pageants and erotic art shows. These are a few examples in the $825 BILLION (and counting!), over 1,588 page stimulus bill. Speaker Nancy Pelosi argues this bill would stimulate the economy, however only 7 percent of the legislation actually goes towards infrastructure - the rest of the bill reads like a taxpayer funded payoff to groups that have supported liberal Democrats' interests.

And what a pay off! ACORN, the long controversial group that purposefully tried to muck up last year's elections to benefit the Democrats is being rewarded by Nancy Pelosi with potentially $4.19 BILLION in taxpayer funds. And more than 10 percent of the proposal-$87 billion-would be directed to groups like Planned Parenthood! The country's recession is crippling families, and the Democrats' solution is spending billions of dollars on contraception?

On the latest "This Week" program on ABC, George Stephanopoulos pressed Speaker Pelosi for an explanation. She implied that making sure there are less children is a great way to stimulate the economy! Meanwhile she helped stop an amendment to the bill that would have protected parental rights!

$200 million dollars in lawn care? ACORN potentially getting $4 BILLION dollars? $87 Billion dollars to Planned parenthood because Nancy Pelosi thinks that having fewer children will stimulate the economy?

Well the citizens of the U.S. have made their bed by putting the spend-sters in charge in Washington. I had a thought the other day and wonder how true it is, "People who can't run businesses run the government."

Obviously, people who cannot balance their own checkbooks or keep themselves out of debt are in charge. No wonder the United States has one of the largest corporate tax rates amongst industrialized nations. We are chasing our industries out of town and wondering why they don't stay, and then the government wants to call them un-American and tax them more. Idiots.

Of course, while they are demonizing those who actually create jobs, our government is spending money as if they could "always print more." Oh wait, they do.

Nancy Pelosi doesn't care though, she has her personal jet airplane to carry her across the nation. Is she the first Speaker of the House to have one?

Government Spending does not produce a stimulus to the economy! Don't believe me, look at this report form the Heritage Foundation: Why Government Spending Does Not Stimulate Economic Growth. Here's a quote:

Most government spending has historically reduced productivity and long-term economic growth due to: [3]

  1. Taxes. Most government spending is financed by taxes, and high tax rates reduce incentives to work, save, and invest—resulting in a less motivated workforce as well as less business investment in new capital and technology. Few government expenditures raise productivity enough to offset the productivity lost due to taxes;
  2. Incentives. Social spending often reduces incentives for productivity by subsidizing leisure and unemployment. Combined with taxes, it is clear that taxing Peter to subsidize Paul reduces both of their incentives to be productive, since productivity no longer determines one's income;
  3. Displacement. Every dollar spent by politicians means one dollar less to be allocated based on market forces within the more productive private sector. For example, rather than allowing the market to allocate investments, politicians seize that money and earmark it for favored organizations with little regard for improvements to economic efficiency; and
  4. Inefficiencies. Government provision of housing, education, and postal operations are often much less efficient than the private sector. Government also distorts existing health care and education markets by promoting third-party payers, resulting in over-consumption and insensitivity to prices and outcomes. Another example of inefficiency is when politicians earmark highway money for wasteful pork projects rather than expanding highway capacity where it is most needed.

Does anymore need to be said? Just two years, just two years, just two years....until the next congressional election.

From House Minority Leader John Boehner

Before I share these things that are attributed to Rep. Boehner, I just wanted to add some of my thoughts. I am absolutely against the debt package being circulated by our new President.

$825 billion dollars? Who is going to pay for this? Your kids and my kids and their kids and their grandkids. And you wonder why I support the FairTax and the Picken's Plan?

I am not willing to stand by and continue to see so much debt tear our country apart! It is not of God and not smart. We are blinded by our debt. How can supposedly smart representatives believe that going deeper into debt will help us to become debt free? My fear is that they do not care about being debt free. They just want more governmental power.

Want to see the oncoming mess we are headed towards? Before you read these, ask yourself, where is the money going to come from? Is our government really able to back these promises? Will our government get its financial backing from those who hate us (the Middle East Money holders)?

I am very skeptical and sadly see us heading towards socialism with these careless spending packages. I have been taught that if you cannot pay cash for what you want then you cannot afford it. Wouldn't it be nice if our federal government set the example and ran on the same principles? Maybe the U.S. would recover more quickly?

From Rep. Boehner:

A Dozen Fun Facts About the House Democrats' Massive Spending Bill

1. The House Democrats' bill will cost each and every household $6,700 additional debt, paid for by our children and grandchildren.

2. The total cost of this one piece of legislation is almost as much as the annual discretionary budget for the entire federal government.

3. President-elect Obama has said that his proposed stimulus legislation will create or save three million jobs. This means that this legislation will spend about $275,000 per job. The average household income in the U.S. is $50,000 a year.

4. The House Democrats' bill provides enough spending - $825 billion - to give every man, woman, and child in America $2,700.

5. $825 billion is enough to give every person living in poverty in the U.S. $22,000.

6. $825 billion is enough to give every person in Ohio $72,000.

7. Although the House Democrats' proposal has been billed as a transportation and infrastructure investment package, in actuality only $30 billion of the bill - or three percent - is for road and highway spending. A recent study from the Congressional Budget Office said that only 25 percent of infrastructure dollars can be spent in the first year, making the one year total less than $7 billion for infrastructure.

8. Much of the funding within the House Democrats' proposal will go to programs that already have large, unexpended balances. For example, the bill provides $1 billion for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which already have $16 billion on hand. And, this year, Congress has plans to rescind $9 billion in highway funding that the states have not yet used.

9. In 1993, the unemployment rate was virtually the same as the rate today (around seven percent). Yet, then-President Clinton's proposed stimulus legislation ONLY contained $16 billion in spending.

10. Here are just a few of the programs and projects that have been included in the House Democrats' proposal:

  • $650 million for digital TV coupons.
  • $6 billion for colleges/universities - many which have billion dollar endowments.
  • $166 billion in direct aid to states - many of which have failed to budget wisely.
  • $50 million in funding for the National Endowment of the Arts.
  • $44 million for repairs to U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters.
  • $200 million for the National Mall, including grass planting.
  • $400 million for "National Treasures."

11. Almost one-third of the so called tax relief in the House Democrats' bill is spending in disguise, meaning that true tax relief makes up only 24 percent of the total package - not the 40 percent that President-elect Obama had requested.

12. $825 billion is just the beginning - many Capitol Hill Democrats want to spend even more taxpayer dollars on their "stimulus" plan.

from Neal's Nuze

The Boehner rapid economic recovery plan would:

  • Give Working Families Tax Relief: Make the tax code fairer and friendlier for the middle-class by doubling the child tax credit from $1,000 to $2,000 per child to put more money back in the pockets of working families.
  • Rebuild 401(k)s and Spur Investment through a Zero Capital Gains Tax: Immediately suspend the capital gains tax on newly acquired assets for the next two years. This will encourage investment and boost the value of sagging 401(k) accounts on behalf of workers and retirees.
  • Provide Tax Relief So American Businesses Create More Jobs: Increase the Section 179 limits that allow small businesses to expense new equipment, and extend bonus depreciation for an additional year and increase its value so that 75% of equipment costs can be deducted in the first year. Provide net operating loss relief for all employers by allowing all employers to “carry-back” losses for three years (five years for small businesses).
  • Keep American Jobs at Home: At 35%, the American corporate tax rate is the second highest such rate in the industrialized world -– a cost passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices for goods and services. The Boehner plan would immediately reduce the rate to 25% to reduce prices for U.S. consumers and give employers additional incentive to keep good-paying jobs in America
  • Create Jobs through an “All of the Above” Energy Plan: Accelerate exploration of new sources of American-made energy and begin implementing the “all of the above” energy strategy House Republicans introduced last summer in the American Energy Act (H.R. 6566). The GOP plan, which would create up to 1 million new jobs in the United States once implemented, calls for increased production of American energy, accelerated development and use of alternative and renewable fuels, and greater conservation and efficiency to reduce energy prices.

President Obama and My Hopes

I watched with joy the inauguration of our newest president. I can say the joy is not from knowing his desires for our country but for all those who thought becoming president was impossible.

Here are my hopes for the next 100 days:

  • That the Republican party will soon embrace all races and hear what they are saying
  • That the Democratic party will stop looking down on everyone as if they were really that high and mighty
  • That the Democratic party would stop being intolerant
  • That President Obama listens to the counsel of those wanting the FairTax
  • That President Obama will truly stand up for the principles our nation was founded upon - in Christ
  • That President Obama would accept the principles of the Pickens Plan
  • That President Obama would listen to the AMA and work with them to lower our insurance rates and find a better way for people to pay for their own insurance
  • That President Obama would remember Christ as His Savior and govern in a manner that reflects the moral standings of our nation
  • That President Obama will not give in to the homosexual agenda
  • That our government will put education back into the hands of the people at the local level
I could go on. If you have read this blog, you know that I strongly support the FairTax, the Pickens Plan, and the AMA's attempt to help everyone get medical coverage.

I have spoken a little about education. I just want to mention that we cannot compare ourselves to nations who have smaller populations as if they had answers for us. We are a large and diverse nation. We have many differing religious and moral views. You cannot put education in the hands of our incompetent federal government and expect everyone to look the same.

Education needs to be put back into the hands of the local population, at most with a set of standards. It must be privatized or at least allow parents to use funding to send their children to which ever school they choose (even if it is a Christian school).

Anyway, that is my hope list for the next 100 days.

Liberals and the FairTax Part 3

The Democrats could win this election with a slam dunk by accepting in totality the FairTax. Here's why:

The FairTax provides for strengthening Social Security and Medicare because the incoming taxes will have be budgeted. This means no more borrowing from these funds.

The FairTax also helps to create a stronger economy which in turn helps business generate new jobs.

Look at the chart. Today we suffer from distressed mortgages. With the FairTax people get to keep their entire paycheck and get to choose how their money will be spent. That means those who are suffering from not being able to pay their mortgages would have more money in their pockets.

The government chose a stuck-up way to bail them out. They said they would rather spend billions in helping those who made the mess instead of directly putting money in the hands of the people.

This would be the greatest win for Democrats ever!

Did you also know that the FairTax untaxes education? That means that for every dollar spent on education - not one penny goes towards federal taxes. That allows more people to be able to afford better educations and get better jobs. It also means parents will get the opportunity to put more money towards their children's education.

So let me ask you, who better budgets your money - you or the government? The FairTax is the best option for those looking for a progressive tax. If you want to learn more, go to FairTax.org. Or see my previous posts Part One and Part Two

Liberals and the FairTax Part 2

Yesterday I touched upon how the FairTax is a great financial assistance program for the poor. For Democrats that is a big win with this tax renewal proposal.

Today, I want to add to something I hinted to yesterday - the FairTax taxes the rich more!

Just think, a consumption tax includes every thing that is consumable. The rich buy expensive products and will have to pay full taxes on them. They will not be able to use a tax loophole to get out of paying taxes, unlike how they are able to use tax loopholes to skirt out of income taxes.

If you want to get at the rich, this is a better way. Senator Obama's plan will do everything to slow down our economy including sending jobs overseas. Senator MCain's plan does not do enough to stir the job growth and stimulate corporations to bring the jobs back to the United States.

By taking the pseudo corporate taxes off the corporations (corporations do not pay taxes, they just pass them on to those who purchase their products), corporations will be more willing to bring the jobs home. By putting more money in the pockets of the poor and the middle class, they will be able to spend more and stimulate job growth through the growth gained by small businesses through spending.

Just look at these two quotes from the FairTax website:
  • The FairTax is the only plan that targets and taxes existing wealth, not the fruits of labor. The FairTax will tax every dollar of accumulated wealth in the most efficient way possible when it is spent.
  • The FairTax promotes the American Dream. The FairTax makes home ownership more affordable because used homes are totally untaxed, and three out of four homebuyers buy used homes.
As a Christian, I believe this tax plan falls more evenly into the Christin values and convictions I hold strongly to.

The word Democrat holds one ideal - that all of us are created equal. Shouldn't our tax code reflect that ideal?

Liberals and the FairTax Part 1

I am going to use this week to urge Democrats and other liberals to take a serious look at the FairTax. With the current meltdown of the economy, the FairTax is a serious and viable tax replacement plan.

Today, I want to show you that the FairTax is a great financial assistance program for the poor.

First, by repealing the 16th Amendment and ridding ourselves of the IRS, we can for the first time in almost one hundred years take federal taxes off those who are poor.

Literally, everyone would receive their entire paycheck (no social security, medicare, or federal income tax deductions).

Second, everyone would receive a prebate at the beginning on the month to offset any sales taxes. The more you make the less you receive. The less you make the more you receive at the beginning of every month.

That means that not only do the poor not pay taxes, they also receive entitlements to help them pay for groceries, gas, and more.

Just think of the buying power that the poor will gain. They will not have to have those embarrassing food stamps. They will get money to help take care of their immediate needs. Low income households will receive 5 times the benefit of the higher income households.

This is the most progressive tax ever presented. Every Democrat should be jumping on this. Don't let your political hopefuls lie to you.

They are against this because they lose money from the Washington D.C. political machine that is working very hard to sway their vote.

Their argument is that the FairTax will have to be more to cover the costs. What they do not tell you is that they would be forced to cut spending. They do not want you to know that this tax would force them to work harder to keep spending under control.

What would spending control do for the U.S.?

The largest problem the U.S. dollar has right now is that the United States is in debt. Every time the Treasury prints more money it creates more inflation. The higher the inflation the more volatile the interest rates.

Spending controls force the government to balance the budget which reduces the amount of tax needed to run government. Don't let them deceive you. Vote for the FairTax by putting FairTax candidates in office.

Mr. McCain Needs to Support The FairTax

Yesterday the DOW had an 800 point drop before recovering. That is pretty significant.

Just think, the government came to the rescue with an $800 Billion rescue plan that hasn't taken place yet nor will it for several months. Then Congress called it quits and went home so fast that the effect left a vacuum in Washington with peoples' ears still popping from the void left behind.

Now Sec. Paulsen is left with hiring former buddies to begin the long drawn out process to help correct the mess made by people who were greedy and others who just could not keep their hands to themselves.

Yesterday's drop proved that government help takes too long, but should we be surprised? Look how long it takes our government to get its act together (unless it is an election year and they only have less than a month to go home and reclaim their seats).

In fact I watched a report this weekend produced by FOXNews which vetted out the causes of the economic downturn. One of the facts I found interesting was that economists are revisiting the history of the Great Depression and many have come to the conclusion that government actions actually caused the Depression to last far beyond what it should have lasted.

As soon as I can find the video online, I will post it.

But my point is that when government gets overly involved, the economy becomes more constrictive. We need a better plan to loosen the economy not restricting it.

This is why Mr. McCain needs to become more radical and support the FairTax. Here is what Neal Boortz had to say today:

I got an email from my publisher yesterday asking if I had been giving the two FairTax books a big push. It seems that sales of The FairTax Book and FairTax, the Truth have been spiking. Well .. it wasn't me, so I guess something else is going on out there.

That call and the spike in sales of the FairTax books does give me the opportunity to remind you that there is no better job creation took out there right new than the FairTax. With implementation of the FairTax several things happen:

  1. Business begin operating in the U.S. with no tax component on capitol or labor. This means that businesses who have been sending their jobs overseas will immediately start bringing them back home. Those jobs left to find a more favorable tax climate. What more favorable tax climate could there be than a no-tax climate?
  2. Foreign government start screaming bloody murder because their corporations start shipping their jobs here to the U.S. Again, the no-tax climate would be the draw.
  3. Trillions of dollars that Americans have sent overseas to work in lower tax countries start coming home as well. These dollars will fuel the greatest explosion in the American economy – and that means more jobs – in history.
  4. You have to hide under you bed to avoid employment.

The 2008 Pork Filled Rescue from the Senate

You have to love to hate their ability to make us angry. The Senate passed a huge tax break package with the bailout.

Here is a good blog for seeing the tax breaks in the bill: Hot Air

New Tax earmarks in Bailout bill
- Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark “extenders” in the bailout bill.
- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)

The American Public didn't like the $700 billion, so the Senate thought we would rather have $850 Billion instead?

The FairTax Needed Now

Let's get the FairTax back on the table. This is the best possible solution to free up cash in the pockets in the common man. With the FairTax we each get to choose how we want to be taxed. With the FairTax we each could collectively stop paying taxes legally as a means of protest..

The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including:

  • A progressive national retail sales tax.
  • A prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level.
  • Dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality.
  • Repeal of the 16th Amendment through companion legislation.
Now is the time to stand up and get real change.
  • No to Bailout, and yes to the Common Sense Plan or the Gingrich Idea
  • Change taxation policies - Lower taxes, help the lower income families, and get our jobs back with the FairTax
That's my continued soapbox.

Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008

$700 Billion to bailout, oops - I mean Stabilize, the economy. For a government that is in debt, where did the money come from? Are they making up money as it goes? What will this do to value of the dollar? I have seen the summaries and legislative proposal. Neither explain enough for me to support this.

So I am hereby announcing that I am running for President. I am even starting my own party - The Commoners. The Commoners is for the common man. You see, our government was created on the belief that the common man can rule himself. This great experiment is no longer an experiment. After 230 years of rule, I would say the United States has withstood plenty of turmoil that would have destroyed any other country. Ours is a special country.

The Commoners is a party that believes that the common man can come up with good ideas that will help expand our ability to remain a great nation. It believes that God is central to all understanding of justice. It believes that truth and honesty are the key to keeping a new form of elitism from dominating our lives - the very lives we have the ability to control.

As for a party platform, I think it should have seven common ideals:
  1. The FairTax is essential to stabilizing our ability to compete with a global market especially with the rising prowess of China and India. Paying off the national debt is must to shore up the dollar and our ability to remain an economic powerhouse.
  2. Education is key to moving our nation forward. Science and technology are the current trends of the future and should be rewarded at the local level for those schools that can raise new innovative leaders in these areas. Vouchers are a must and federal standards are the most the U.S. government needs to provide the common man. Education must be controlled at the local level. Financial Education in the high school level is a must and students will have to pass such classes to graduate.
  3. Healthcare is a must for our nation. The Commoners oppose any legislation that nationalizes healthcare. We have the greatest healthcare in the world. What we need is better communication between the medical fields through more enhanced technology. We need to clean up Medicare and look into provided incentives to industries that are able to provide healthcare to those in need. We need to stimulate plans that help the poor to save money with tax free investments that they can use for education, health care, or other immediate needs. We do this by creating a supplement for low cost insurance for those who make a under certain amount per year. Pornography is a detriment to our society and destroys individuals as well as families, and should be banned. Marriage as seen by the Commoners is between a man and a woman. Abortion is wrong and should be opposed by all. But marriage and abortion, though vital to our identity, should be fought at the state level.
  4. Social Security is a problem today. It must be dealt with immediately. The FairTax will help to better secure the finances needed to care for our aging citizens but the finances needed for the future must be secured through encouraged investments and savings at the individual level. People must be taught how to save and invest if we are ever to see Social Security replaced.
  5. Energy and the environment are vital to our survival. The Commoners support the Pickens Plan to help provide better security and better energy management for our nation. This environment is our only environment. Though we oppose government taking the land of people, we must provide for more recycling and better treatment of our natural resources.
  6. National defense must remain a primary work of the federal government. Immigration enforcement is part of this security and must be the primary goal of this Party. The war against terrorism must continue, and the message of freedom must be made known throughout the world.
  7. God is central to governing. The push to rid America of the true God of the Bible must end. Our principles and beliefs all stem from the Bible. Respect for all religious beliefs must be maintained but moral integrity should arise from our Christian heritage.
As time goes on, new issues will be addressed. These however are the seven primary issues that are driving this election. Anyway, those are my musing. Maybe this will catch on in time to get elected. Someone has to stand for something.

As for those I would ask to help govern:
  • Vice-President - Newt Gingrich
  • White House Chief of Staff - my uncle
  • Secretary of State - Karen Handel
  • Secretary of Defense - I would ask Mr. Gates to remain
As for the others, time would reveal my picks for those positions. What do you think?

We Need Real Leadership

Venezuela's president, the super mouth from the south, has decided to have "military" maneuvers as a show of strength against the U.S. The Russian mafia government as a means of throwing a tantrum has decided to refresh its alliances in Latin America (or at least with those countries that want something to do with them).

Of course, the reason for these maneuvers are to test new toys that Venezuela is getting ready to purchase. Russia has signed a contract to provide a bunch of new weaponry, and they are also looking to broker a deal to create an energy alliance. Russia is moving to provide Venezuela with a refinery so Venezuela can refine its own fuel. This is what interest me the most.

Venezuela is the ninth largest oil producer in the world and provides the U.S. with a large portion of our oil supplies. The alliance with Russia seems to be a move in which Russia can use to manipulate us. Russia's tantrum has all the earmarks of the old Cold War posturing.

Russia is trying to flex a muscle it hasn't used in twenty years. If we do not wake up soon we will have a huge problem on our hands. Venezuela with this new alliance will not have to sell oil to us.

We need to invest in our own renewable sources and until we can get to that point we must find new sources for oil. Drilling fifty miles off the coast is not going to help us. We need to drill where the oil is.

Picken's plan looks better and better. At least it gives us a direction. Right now our politicians are lost in a fog. I would love to see someone stand up and take a firm position.

JFK was loved by most not because he was a perfect president. He was loved because he had vision and direction. He said we should put someone on the moon, and we did. He took a bold move in standing up to the Russian move to put nukes in Cuba, and Russia backed down.

Lincoln is loved not because he was president but because he believed in abolishing slavery (unpopular as it was), and he stuck to his guns. There was a Civil War and his ideas won in the end.

Our new aged politicians are too busy trying to become movie stars and popular icons. They are afraid to take a position and go for it. I would love to see one of the candidates come out with one strong idea on each of the major topics and run on those ideas. Lay out their plans and let us decide which plan we like.

All I hear are wishes and hopes of the candidates. I have written about this numerous times but with Russia becoming a pain, Iran blowing everyone off, and North Korea pulling the shades down low, we do not have the luxury of getting this wrong.

  • Drill Here, Drill Now - and Pay Less. Then invest heavily in renewable energy.
  • Adopt the FairTax and bring our corporations and jobs home
  • Vouchers all the way for school (any school), set federal standards, and let competition meet those goals
  • Go back to pre-Clinton banking rules to regulate the banking and stocks systems in a healthy way to help stem off greedy and underhanded trading that leaves us vulnerable
  • PAY OFF OUR NATIONAL DEBT
  • Actually implement our immigration policies
  • Take care of our environment (it is not about global warming; it's about being faithful stewards of what God has entrusted us with)
  • And most importantly, let God be God in America again
Was that so hard? It would easily take four years just to get these eight points taken care of. Maybe then we could get away from personal attacks and get back to really debating each other's ideas.

I'm a Patriot, He's a Patriot, Wouldn't You Like To Be One Too?

So Joesph Biden thinks we are being unpatriotic if we do not like to pay more taxes?

He has gone off the deep end. How about this Senator - CUT SPENDING!

If I stop making money, I have to cut spending. The government should also. If the money is not there, it needs to CUT SPENDING! Our forefathers are turning over in their graves.

How much louder can I say it? Of course, I wish I was one of the wealthier so this had more meaning. But get real.

Neither raising taxes nor cutting taxes is going to help our economy recover any faster. The first step is for the federal government to take the baby steps necessary to cut spending. But then their power will recede and the government may become for the people and by the people again. I don't think Congress could part with their pocket padding.

If Mr. McCain would like to help Americans recover, he needs to get on board with true tax reform and cutting federal spending. Committees are the first place to put things you want to die. Don't believe me? Ever been a part of a church committee?

Senator Biden might see his leashed pulled back in after this one.

Sen Obama Can Lower Taxes

Here is how it works:

  1. President Obama, with a Democratically dominated Congress will raise taxes on the top 5%.
  2. The top 5% will in turn cut jobs and stop creating new positions.
  3. Those who lose their jobs or those who cannot find a job will have lower taxes.
  4. Why? They will not have any money to pay taxes with.
Yes, Senator Obama is ready to lower taxes and you can get a free pass to the welfare state he is wanting to create with his plan. Welcome to the United States of Socialism, if Mr. Obama is elected.

It is not too late to start demanding the FairTax or at least getting involved with electing Mr. McCain.

Battling Inflation

What would happen if we had an economic stimulus plan that helped to
  • decrease interest rates
  • and to free up capital normally spent on tax compliance?
A major problem that has occurred with the housing debacle was created by fluctuating interest rates that sent a lot of home owners packing because they could not afford the raised mortgage payment.

Interest rates can drive inflation if not monitored correctly. I am not an expert, but from what I do understand, inflation is due to bad borrowing and bad economic practices. Also, if I may deduce, interest helps to pull excess money out of circulation thereby creating a pseudo increase in the value of the dollar which helps to stabilize inflated pricing by creating more demand for money.

Raise the rates too high and the economy becomes sluggish making it harder to afford some products and services. Lower rates too much and inflation begins to rage. It is an indefinite balancing act.

Much of this is caused by the overspending of the federal government. The government (executive and legislative) has for the last eight years spend more than any previous administration. They have spent so much that in order to cover our spending our government has turned to foreign countries to back our borrowing. Now we have a situation that proves why we need a an amendment of some kind that forces Congress to balance the budget and pay off our debt.

Our government has decided that the best practice to fighting our money problems is to print more money (money that is not backed by any physical value - like gold). Printing more money decreases the value of the dollar and again you battle inflation because a deflated dollar means you need more dollars to buy a product.

So what is the answer?

Why not adjust the interest rate for growth (that means lower it). Then balance the federal budget and provide for immediate repaying of all outstanding federal debt! Then pass a balanced budget amendment. Then replace the current tax code with the FairTax because it is the only tax code that can promise the two issues I mentioned at the beginning of this blog.

Okay this is my opinion, what's yours? And yes, as I stated, I am not an expert so if you understand inflation better than me then by all means correct me.

Trickle Down What?

As you try to study something there are times you come across questions you cannot answer.

I am hoping that other FairTax supporters will chime in. I came across this thought while I was reading Why We Want You to Be Rich: Two Men - One Message by Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump.

According to Robert and Donald, the rich choose to invest their money in assets such as business and real estate and other adventures outside the country. How does that affect the "trickle down" effect of the FairTax?

The more I think about it and the more I read about it, I see that much of their investment is made in real estate and business. So taxed or not the money they put into real estate creates new business while generating wealth for themselves.

Maybe I am just musing today. I still believe in the FairTax, especially compared to the utter failure of our current tax structure which allows corporations and the government to steal from our investments and create a seemingly insurmountable federal debt.

Entitlements Attitude

One thing I have gleaned from the book is that most of our entitlement attitude that is driving the destruction of our economy is due to our current tax system.

The FairTax gets rid of the Social Security and Medicare deductions from everyone's paycheck. This hopefully will encourage people to start investing and saving wisely.

By The Way

If you haven't read the book, Why We Want You to Be Rich: Two Men - One Message, then you may want to read it even if you just read the first part. Everything they mentioned two years ago about our economy and oil prices is happening now!

The FairTax is a Christian Act

Read this passage and then see what I have to say about it.

A great protest was mounted by the people, including the wives, against their fellow Jews. Some said, "We have big families, and we need food just to survive." Others said, "We're having to mortgage our fields and vineyards and homes to get enough grain to keep from starving." And others said, "We're having to borrow money to pay the royal tax on our fields and vineyards. Look: We're the same flesh and blood as our brothers here; our children are just as good as theirs. Yet here we are having to sell our children off as slaves—some of our daughters have already been sold—and we can't do anything about it because our fields and vineyards are owned by somebody else." I got really angry when I heard their protest and complaints. After thinking it over, I called the nobles and officials on the carpet. I said, "Each one of you is gouging his brother." Then I called a big meeting to deal with them. I told them, "We did everything we could to buy back our Jewish brothers who had to sell themselves as slaves to foreigners. And now you're selling these same brothers back into debt slavery! Does that mean that we have to buy them back again?" They said nothing. What could they say? "What you're doing is wrong. Is there no fear of God left in you? Don't you care what the nations around here, our enemies, think of you? "I and my brothers and the people working for me have also loaned them money. But this gouging them with interest has to stop. Give them back their foreclosed fields, vineyards, olive groves, and homes right now. And forgive your claims on their money, grain, new wine, and olive oil." They said, "We'll give it all back. We won't make any more demands on them. We'll do everything you say." Then I called the priests together and made them promise to keep their word. Then I emptied my pockets, turning them inside out, and said, "So may God empty the pockets and house of everyone who doesn't keep this promise—turned inside out and emptied." Everyone gave a wholehearted "Yes, we'll do it!" and praised God. And the people did what they promised.Nehemiah 5:1-13 (MSG)

There are three points from this passage form Nehemiah that I believe we each can understand.

  • Taxes are a burden to the poor - look at the impact of the lives of the Israelites. They had a hard time affording food, they were putting their kids to work, and they had to borrow just to pay their taxes. The FairTax offers a prebate to all citizens. The prebate will be given at the beginning of the month which will be automatic assistance to those in need. It is guaranteed grocery money. Plus, with the FairTax, everyone keeps their entire paycheck (excluding any state and local taxes or company benefits), which means they will have their entire paycheck to spend the money as they see fit.
  • Leaders have to be angry enough to stand up and demand a change - Right now our leaders in Congress are being told it is okay to say they are for the FairTax because senior leaders will not let the FairTax come to a vote. Being angry must lead them to action.
  • We need to stand firm and keep our leaders motivated - The less they hear from us about the FairTax the less important they will believe this issue is to us.
As a Christian, it is my civic duty to help care for the poor. As a Christian, I believe a good start is seeing reform in our tax code. I only wish our current candidates for President would hear me. At least my Representative is the author of H.R. 25.

Take a look at each of the platforms of the two major parties (or even the smaller parties). They all want reform but the reform will come in increased spending, tax raises, or tax cuts.

In addition to passing the FairTax, we must work together to get Congress to pass a law demanding fiscal responsibility through a balanced budget.

This is extremely important because our government's failure to stop spending is sending our country on the way towards financial ruin. It has been projected for years. We are depended on foreign countries to sustain our economy through loans. What happens when they say enough is enough and call those loans?

Our country, if we do not work hard to pay back our debt, is on the verge of bankruptcy and we will have to sell out to foreign governments. We are better than this and need to make some very hard yet very necessary changes in order to stop this collapse.

Our current leaders keep smiling and going around believing their own hype that everything will be okay. But if we keep taxing our corporations at the current rate, we will no longer have United States corporations. Budweiser is the latest to seek to be bought out of country because the tax burden is too high. Who will be next?

We need our government officials to call together a panel of men and women who know how to make money and who know how to make hard decisions and let them come up with a plan that will help us get out of debt.

This panel must not have any ex-Congressmen or government officials. It should be put together by the President. Here are a few names to consider - Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, and others in the real world who have been through the hard times and recovered.

Then we need to concentrate on Social Security and Medicare before they both suck us dry. I think we can conquer that tomorrow.
