Save My Health Care
I have been thinking lately about how we could make health insurance more affordable and accessible to everyone.
Well, let's look.
For the most part, about 50 million people are without any coverage (the numbers go up and down depending upon who you speak with.
Of the 50 about 11 million are probably illegal aliens and about 9 million are people who live at or below the poverty level.
Now, what about the rest? From various sources, many are young single or married people who are healthy and still thinks that health care is what happens when you drink a diet soda instead of a regular one.
Most of the 50 million could afford health care coverage but choose not because that coverage eats into their fun money. But can we make it more affordable?
Well Medicare helps the seniors and Medicaid assists those who are living in poverty. We could takes some extra money and refurbish these programs for better management.
My idea for the rest:
My wife and I participate in a program in which we pay for our health care through her employer. We have a family plan that is very affordable. But we pay through the state plan which offers a few insurance options. We choose the one we liked and are very happy with it.
Why can't we do the same for everyone else? Why can't banks or credit unions or communities offer the same programs to their people?
As a minister, I could get health care coverage through my denomination. I don't because the coverage is very expensive (there are more older people involved with it than younger which keeps the cost too high).
Why can't we help insurance companies to get tax credits for lowering costs and providing better premiums?
Until Congress and the President deal with these very questions (which would cost tons less than their plan), I will not support this federal option.
Thanks for reading my opinion on this. What are your ideas?

The Government is Losing Income Tax Revenue
22 and 57
What do those numbers represent?
Give up?
The first number represents an amount of individual income tax revenues. The second represent corporate tax revenues. Still do not know?
Tax revenues from individual income tax is DOWN 22% as well as tax revenue from corporate taxes which is down a whopping 57%!
This equals billions of dollars. Where is our government going to get the money to pay for all these plans for health care, clunker programs, and other spending programs?
You guessed it. Geithner did not speak out of place. I watched Robert Gibbs, the White House spokesman, dance around the subject of taxing the middle class yesterday. In his "uhs" and "ums", he unequivocally opened the door for higher taxes which will be wagered on the middle class - you and me.
History is repeating itself. Things are bad but because the liberal Democrats have not read the history that led up to the Great Depression; they are on the fast track to repeating the same mistakes which prolonged that depression - higher taxes (cap and trade), corporate taxes, and then middle class taxes.
We can make better choices:
- The FairTax is a good start - creates a constant flow of revenue for our federal government
- Cutting corporate taxes and giving small businesses tax breaks for job creation would be an easier start - lowers the prices of goods and helps provide revenue for businesses to create new jobs
- Drastically cutting back in federal spending is another - federal waste does not create jobs; it creates more debt
The stimulus is creating a situation in which inflation will skyrocket and the national debt will continue to bloom. The stimulus spending, when it actually gets spent, will in time make the economy look better - but at what cost? The stimulus is not a fix; it is a bandage. The problem is unfettered government spending which will take decades to recover from.
I am not a doomsayer. I am a realist. When I wanted to get control of my finances - I paid off all my debt. My wife and I will no longer use debt to fund our life. We use cash, and boy is it liberating!
Our federal government can do the same thing but very, very, hard decisions must be made, and that must come from stronger leadership.

GA Department of Revenue is Worthless
I just got off the phone with the GA Dept of Revenue concerning the return I filed for 2008. You see I sent my return "certified mail" as recommended by my tax software (yes, I do my own taxes) back in March!
They are currently working on April returns. Where is mine? So I called last week, and the woman told me to mail it again because they do not have it. I went to the Post Office to ask where it was. They give me the date, the time, the location, and the person who signed for it.
Now, I am irritated. So I call today. They say, oh, it is there and was just processed. What? So I ask why it takes so long for "certified mail" to get processed. Here is the answer (it is bull but here it is):
"Your return was sent to a P.O.Box to which no one can sign for it. So the Post Office has to go and find the physical address and then take it to us. That means it takes longer to process."
Are you serious? It takes five months for a certified piece of mail to get from my house (45 minutes away) to a processor? How lame is that? I can understand the P.O. Box bit, but I have a signed document that shows the GA Revenue office received the item three days after I mailed it! Don't give me crap that it takes longer - not five months longer!
This is our government efficiency at work. And our government really thinks it can run a health program and car manufacturing and our lives. Give me a break.

Read My Lips, No New Taxes
What a classic line from a politician. No new taxes. How true it is. They do not tax us with new taxes. They just reinstate the old tax systems.
Geithner, the man who thought he did not have to pay his taxes, is now promising to tax people in the lower tax brackets. Why? Because the rich can't pay for it all.
Think about it. They promised to spend trillions of dollars, and they did not have any plan to pay the money back.
Here is the number one problem with our President. He only has coffee table talking points. He doesn't have a clue about implementation! Why? Because he has never been in a position to make such decisions. And now we are going to have to pay for the foolhardiness of this push for change.
Cash For Clunkers
No new taxes, read my lips. But we will still fund this program with an additional $2 billion. No sweat. We will pay for it with stimulus money or TARP funds or some other tax.
Here is the biggest problem with Cash for Clunkers: it is the same idea that brought the housing market crashing down!
Government stuck its ill-fettered nose into the housing market declaring that everyone should have a house. They made it very easy to get a loan without putting any checks in place to ensure banks that the people could actually pay for the homes. The bubble popped.
Now, let's give money to people to get new cars because everyone deserves a new "cleaner" car. Oh but let's not check too much whether or not people can pay for them. Just wait until this bubble pops (though I hope I am wrong).
The Socialist Car Industry of America has already run out of money, and now they want more for it. Where are the new jobs this plan promised?
Health Care
No new taxes, just read my lips, so you will miss how Congress is hiding the real expenses of the health care debacle as "non-budgetary" items.
Senators and Representatives all over the nation are getting an ear full from constituents. Yet, they still don't get it. They really think we do not care what they do up on Capital Hill. AND RIGHTLY SO!
We keep sending them back thinking that "our Senator or our Representatives isn't a part of the problem." Kathleen Sebelius bit her lip as she almost laughed at a woman in Pennsylvania who was voicing her concern.
What happens if our government does pass this really, really, bad health care plan, and then they run out of money? Will they just print more?
As long as we are silent about the debt driven spending on Capital Hill, we will never get out of debt. It is time for a change.
Cap and Trade
No new taxes, just old ones hidden in new language. I cannot afford $1600 more a month - especially since my wife is part of the teaching core that is getting furloughed (with more dates pending).
Yep, no new taxes. Just different language.
