I am not sure why President Ronald Reagan has become the symbol of conservatism, and yet he has. Talk show hosts seem to have a Reagan litmus test which they use to judge Republican candidates.
I guess it is what works for them. I wonder if the FairTax would have had a chance under Reagan? I like Reagan, from what I can remember of him.
Anyway, I'll keep looking for an answer to that question. Until then, here is an article by the author of the FairTax House Bill 25 - John Linder.

The Saturday Primaries Are Here
Today is do or die for many candidates. Too bad they listened to Washington politics and not to the people they were trying to get to vote for them.
You would think they would each take a page out of history and stand for at least one thing. For example, Lincoln set out to help rid our country of a nasty problem - slavery. Lincoln had a 100 to 1 chance of being elected, yet he prevailed because he knew that injustice is injustice. Sure, the president has to have an overall outlook for leading our country, and no, I am not comparing the unfair taxation of our citizens to slavery. But why not stand for one solid principle and get it accomplished?
I think many politicians try to fix too many things at one time. Why not concentrate on one thing at a time and get it done?
So I harp again - the FairTax is a great place to start in fixing many of our economic problems. Is it a perfect answer? No. But it will eliminate the truck load of paperwork and the building that holds the outline for the current tax code with a very reasonable tax.

A FairTax Leader?
As the results were posted from the Michigan primaries, I heard several different news agencies speak to different Republican candidates. Each time they mentioned that Gov. Romney had the lead in delegates and had one win and two second place finishes. This was news worthy.
But why did they keep asking candidates about Mike Huckabee? I am serious. Each candidate was asked how they could overcome the presence of Huckabee.
So let me ask, if Romney is in the lead, then why is Huckabee a threat? Could it be that he is making a stronger showing than the media can handle?
I think they need to realize that the FairTax is the most radical piece of change being promoted by any candidate. No matter how many plugs each candidate gets, they all role out the same talking points. Yes, we need national defense. Yes, we need to deal with our immigration policies and problems. Yes, we need to get the federal government out of education. But we all know this. But what about having to deal with taxes and how America's current tax system is choking out our economy? It is the economy stupid.
You can ask any of the candidates if they support the FairTax, and they give you their answers. I want to know why people are not asking if the candidates have themselves looked earnestly at the FairTax? Why not? They are fed by the same unchanging dysfunctional lobbying that panders to the beltway politicians who fear they may have to find a new job.
You can contact the top Republican leaders in the Senate and ask why they have bought into the lobbyist who are trying to silence the FairTax. Will you get an honest answer? I do not know. Will you get a lobby answer? You just may.
The FairTax is the best alternative for our tax problems. No one else is coming up with better solutions. They are suggesting bandages, but how long will those hold before the wounds have to be redressed?
We do not need a fix. We need a change.

Huckabee Has A Chance
There is not any secret to the fact that I now support Huckabee. This is not a Huckabee blog though. I just want someone who will try to be honest with us.
I also want someone who supports getting rid of the IRS and implementing a better tax system.
We cannot get around it. We need a tax system that taxes everyone yet takes the burden off of those who make little income.
So by putting Gov. Huckabee into office, we have a chance to get the FairTax into the political mainstream and a better chance of getting it passed.
If you want the same convoluted, overly complicated, mess of a tax system with a government sanctioned bulldog hounding you all your life, then support someone else.
As for me, get the government off my back, get the government out of my church and beliefs, and give me a simpler tax system.
